The Pandemic Pivot: Mixologists Making Moves – CHAD LEE LOY

Chad Lee Loy’s passion is mixology, he was born to serve; his infectious smile and engaging personality has seen him serve as a pillar in the hospitality industry here in Trinidad and Tobago for the last 13 years.

However, when Covid 19 hit, Chad lost his job and was facing an uncertain future. He told us, as a supervisor in his restaurant he was one of the first to be laid off, but he had to find a way to remain positive.

“This is a time when we can all panic, and dwell in the negativity, but we are all hustlers in this industry, we know how to survive, and I had to find ways to cope with the negativity and the loss of income.” he said.

Chad explained he had to tap into skills that were dormant, “I have always loved cooking, and as a mixologist, I have spent so many years around great chefs, I learned a thing or two along the way.

So, I decided to go brave and start a small catering service 3 to 4 days week. I cook food that I love to eat, and I deliver in and around Woodbrook.

My company is now called DuckSause. The name is based on my Asian heritage, it was a nickname I inherited, and it stuck and today it has become my brand.”

“The pandemic has hit me hard along with so many of my hospitality brothers and sisters, but I have no regrets and I strongly advise all my friends in the industry learn to be adaptable, we have learned so many skills knowingly and unknowingly working in this industry, and these skills are transferable to other jobs and opportunities. Don’t give up!”
