SEARED TUNA AND ASIAN PEAR SALAD

Ingredients

1 (6oz – 8 oz ) fresh tuna fillet

2 – 3 tbsp sesame oil

2 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp rice wine vinegar

1 tsp oyster sauce

Salt and black pepper

1 head romaine lettuce, chopped

1½ cups fresh spinach leaves

1 – 2 Asian pears, thinly sliced

1 red onion, thinly sliced

Juice of 1 lime

Directions

  1. Mix together the sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar, oyster sauce and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Place the tuna in the mixture and leave to marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Toss the pear slices in a little lime juice to avoid browning.
  3. When ready to assemble the salad:
Mix together the lettuce and spinach in a bowl. Season with lime juice and a little salt and pepper. Place the greens in an even layer in a serving dish. Arrange the onion and pear slices randomly over the top. Drizzle with a little sesame oil.
  4. Heat the oil over high heat. Place the tuna in the hot pan and let sear on one side for 1 - 2 minutes, depending on the thickness. Flip onto the next side and let sear. Remove from the heat. Slice diagonally and place on top the salad.
  5. Serve or refrigerate until ready to serve.
